CHAPTER 1
A loud, frantic knock at the door woke Kato up in the middle of the night. It took him a minute to process where he was, and what had happened, his mind groggy with sleep and fatigue. He pulled himself out of bed and walked over to the entrance of his apartment wearing only a pair of tight boxer briefs.
“Kato! I’m sorry for stopping by so late, but I was so scared!” Amy was standing outside, and she threw herself into his arms as soon as she saw him. She was still wearing the clothes that he had seen her in the day before, and there were small trails on her face where tears had dripped down and smudged her makeup.
“Hey….what’s going on?” Kato pulled her inside and shut the door. He rubbed her back and did his best to reassure her as he guided her over to the couch.
“Kato…someone, or something, has been watching my apartment!” Amy’s voice was wavering with heavy emotion, and her eyes were threatening to start tearing up again.
“What? What are you talking about?”
Amy shook her head at him. It had been a while since Kato had seen anyone as upset as she was. He walked over to the door to his apartment and locked it, and then into the kitchen, and began pouring each of them a drink. Amy was sitting on the couch, quietly holding back tears and trying to calm herself down.
Kato brought her the drink, and then just sat with her for a minute, patiently waiting for her to relax enough to explain to him what was going on. She took a large sip of the gin and tonic, and then looked at him, her body finally managing to stop shaking.
“I didn’t have cheerleading practice yesterday, so I came straight home from school.” Amy spoke quickly, as though she was afraid of not having enough time to get all of her words out. “I knew you were busy, so I figured I’d just hang around the living room and do homework.”
Kato nodded, and put his arm around her shoulder.
“The first thing that seemed weird was that there was a van parked outside the house. I know the cars of everyone in my neighborhood, and this one didn’t belong to anybody nearby.”
“Do you think it could have just been someone visiting?” asked Kato. Amy shook her head.
“There’s more. Before my parents got home, I was up in my room doing homework, and I noticed someone in our backyard…”
Kato’s intuition immediately began considering the various possibilities. Gabe was his prime suspect for something like this, but he’d been with him for all of the afternoon. Ms. Vega was definitely interested in getting more information about him, but for her to go after Amy was outlandish, and unlikely.
“Did you manage to get a good look at them?” asked Kato. Amy shook her head.
“No. They had on some type of greyish robe. They had a pair of binoculars, too, and the way they acted…it scared me, Kato.”
Kato stood up and walked over to the door.
“Were they still there when your parents came home?”
“No, they just…disappeared,” said Amy. “My mom and dad didn’t believe me when I told them. It was odd, but I wasn’t too concerned by it…not until later in the night.”
In his mind Kato was thinking logically, but emotions swirled inside his chest, fueled by his inner beast. He listened to what Amy was saying, and felt a violent reaction welling up within.
“Kato, I went downstairs after we’d all gone to bed, and I saw someone right outside one of the windows!” Amy began to cry as she spoke, with scared tears trickling down her face. “My parents didn’t believe me, but I know what I saw!”
“Amy, what did you see?” Kat walked over to her and held onto her arm. “Tell me! What did it look like outside the window?”
“It was…I don’t know, it just looked like…somebody scary.” Amy took a deep breath, and tried to wipe her face clean discretely. Kato hugged her, and then stood up and walked towards his own window.
“You can sleep here tonight,” he said. “It’s not safe for you to go home. It probably wasn’t safe for you to come here in the first place, but that’s beside the point.”
Amy nodded, and then wrapped her arms around herself and shivered. Kato grabbed a sweatshirt off his coat rack and draped it over her shoulders, and then walked over to the door.
“What are you doing?” asked Amy. “Please…just stay with me here!”
“I’ll knock four times when I come back,” said Kato. “Keep the door locked until then.”
Kato pulled on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt and disappeared out the door before Amy had time to formulate any decent objection. His mind was racing with ideas about what she had told him, and all of the possibilities running through it had to do with him, and his unique nature.
If it wasn’t Gabe, most likely I was someone else who had a vested interest in the paranormal. Kato had encountered a number of vigilante monster hunters in his time traveling, and every time it had ended with at least a modicum of bloodshed. He wasn’t looking to repeat the past, but if whoever it was intended to bring the people close to him into the mix, there was likely no other way.
It was late at night, and the moon had slipped behind cloud cover. Kato moved slowly down the stairs of his apartment complex, listening to the wind rustling through the grass. He felt a presence of something, but couldn’t pin it down.
His bike was right where he left it, and as he walked barefoot across the concrete, for a moment he felt as though the area was crowded. There was more than one of them, Kato realized. A group was after him, a group that knew what he was.
There was a sound from down the street, and Kato took off towards it, like a bullet from a heated rifle. It was moving away from him, towards an abandoned building that he drove by every day on his way to Westbrook High. Kato felt his body shifting, not fully transforming, but changing just enough to imbue him with strength and speed far beyond that of an ordinary human.
He was closer to whatever it was by the time he made it to the dilapidated entranceway. Kato nimbly stepped between two wooden boards that had been nailed over the open doorframe, and then sped after the culprit, following creaking footsteps upstairs.
The building wasn’t big, which made it all the more surprising and irritating when Kato reached the second floor and found nothing. It wasn’t just that whatever it was had gotten away, there was no trace of it, as though it had never been there in the first place. Kato let out a frustrated growl and slammed his fist into the rotting drywall, making a hole the size of a garbage can lid with the force of his punch.
The hunt wasn’t over, and he knew it. He needed to focus, and give his beast instincts free reign to do whatever they needed. He could track it down, he just needed better smell, better eyes, and sharper claws.
“Kato!” Amy was calling him from down the street, at the edge of parking lot of his apartment. “Kato, I’m so scared!”
He cursed under his breath, and walked out of the building. Kato wasn’t mad at her. He was mad at himself, primarily for not being able to keep her safe. An attack could have easily happened the moment she stepped outside, even back earlier in the night before ever reaching him, and he would have been totally unable to protect her.
Kato did his best to focus and bring his beast form under control as he jogged back to the apartment complex. Amy was holding her arms around her chest, looking cold and scared. He pulled her into a protective embrace and started leading her back inside.
“I was so scared,” she whispered. “Please stay with me, for tonight.”
“Of course, I’m sorry Amy.” Kato ran his hand through her hair. “I just thought that…never mind, it was nothing.”
He brought her inside, and again closed and locked the door behind them. There had definitely been something out there, but Kato didn’t reveal as much to Amy. Paranoia was the last thing that would keep her calm. Instead, he pulled his shirt off and wordlessly walked into his bedroom, sitting down and watching as she followed.
“Kato…” whispered Amy. She was such a beautiful girl, attractive enough to get anything that she wanted. As she walked after Kato, she slowly began to pull her shirt up and over her head, revealing her two perfect globes and the tiny bra concealing them.
Kato was still excited from what little was left of his primal instincts, and he felt his cock leaping into attention. Amy continued undressing, wiggling out of her pants slowly and making intensely sexual eye contact with him.
As soon as she stepped within arm’s reach, Kato grabbed her and roughly pulled her down onto the bed. He slipped out of his own pants and boxers, and began kissing her passionately, letting his cock run across the fabric of her panties and tease at her entrance.
Kato groped at his girlfriend’s breasts, and she let out a quiet moan. He deftly unhooked her bra, and felt a powerful lust settle across his mind as her perfect, naked nipples came into view. He wanted to protect her, and he wanted to defile
her, he realized.
Amy was leaning back and opening her legs to him, and Kato quickly stripped off her panties and positioned his cock at the edge of her cunt. She was warm and wet, eager to feel him inside of her. Kato pushed forward, letting the head of his dick pop into her pussy, and feeling an intense pleasure take hold of him.
“Oh god, Kato…” moaned Amy. She was blushing, as if the sex was still somewhat embarrassing for her. Kato wondered for a moment what his own face must look like, contorted like a possessed man, hungry for his release.
He began to fuck her hard, pushing his full length into Amy, making her moan and cry out with every thrust. There was so little that Kato could control in the world, and so much that he couldn’t. He slammed into Amy harder, watching as her big, beautiful breasts bounced in time with his movements.
“I, Kato…I’m going to…” Amy was blushing an even deeper shade of red now. She grabbed at her crotch as she began to tense up, and Kato felt her pussy clamp down tightly against his rod, as though trying to milk his cum out.
He kissed her on the neck, and then the cheek, and then the lips. Amy wrapped her arms around him tightly, her body still locked up with pleasure, and Kato began to really give in to the animalistic drive inside of him.
He lifted her up and off the bed slightly, and began to thrust into her body as he pulled her closer. It felt almost as though he masturbating, using the girl’s small, perfect body as a tool to pleasure himself with. The girl’s pussy was his to do with what he pleased, and at that moment, all he wanted to do was to pound it.
Kato slammed her back down onto the soft bed and pushed into her harder, pumping with all the strength he had for the last few thrusts. He felt the cum well up inside his cock, and then explode, spraying his seed deep into Amy and causing his mind to overload with pleasure.
Amy cuddled as close as she could to Kato as the two of them lay there afterwards. He ran his hands through her hair, and kissed her softly on the forehead.
“It will be okay, Amy,” said Kato. “I’ll figure out what’s going on.”
CHAPTER 2
Kato woke up after Amy that morning, and was surprised to find her in his kitchen, struggling over the stove. He could smell smoke in the air, and heard her utter a strangely cute sounding curse word as she accidentally set her finger down on a hot pan.
“Here, run it under cold water,” said Kato. He yawned and walked over, pulling her hand over to the sink and running the water down onto it.
“Thanks. I just want to do something to make it up to you…” Amy smiled at him. “It meant a lot to me, that you were willing to listen last night.”
“Are your parents going to be alright with it when they find out that you spent the night over here?”
“I haven’t heard anything from them yet,” said Amy. “It’s not unusual for me to head over to Katie’s or Anna’s house early in the morning, before they wake up. I’m guessing that’s where they think I am.”
After Kato helped Amy salvage what was left of the burned breakfast, the two of them ate the food and then began getting ready for school. Kato was alert for the entire morning, watching the windows and listening for anything out of the ordinary.
“Is it really going to be okay, Kato?” asked Amy. “What if…what if whatever it is follows me to school?”
“Trust me, the school is the safest place for you.” Kato rubbed her shoulder gently and flicked a strand of hair out of her face. “I doubt anything would even consider making a move in front of that many people.”
Amy had thought enough ahead to bring a change of clothes with her, and Kato went over to the visitor’s parking lot and grabbed them from her car while she was in the shower. His inner beast was on high alert, ready for anything as he stepped outside. Part of him wanted his new opponent to make a move, to reveal itself and give him a chance to strike back.
He made it back to the apartment, and slipped into the bathroom to give Amy her clothes. She was turning the water off as he opened the door, her beautiful blond hair and body dripping with tiny, tantalizing drops of water. It took all of Kato’s willpower to set the clothes down on the bathroom counter and walk himself back out to the living room.
Kato got dressed, and stuffed his books into his messenger bag for the day. It was hard for him to focus in on what he needed to do for school, but he did his best to get his mind into the mood for academics. Between his back and forth with Gabe, and whatever else could be lurking in wait for him, Kato had more than enough on his plate without bringing homework into the equation.
“You don’t have a hair drier?” called Amy from inside the bathroom. Kato smiled. At least that was one problem that he didn’t have.
The two of them left for school shortly after. Kato climbed onto his bike and started it up, letting Amy grip her arms around him tightly from behind.
It was a nice day, with clear skies and a gentle breeze in the air. As Kato sped down the road towards Westbrook High, all of his senses were engaged with keeping track of what was going on around them. He didn’t notice any cars following them, or any smells that were out of the ordinary. If it wasn’t for his memory of the night before and Amy’s vivid account of what she’d seen, he might have discarded the incident as a case of unchecked paranoia.
He cruised to a stop in the school’s parking lot and pulled off his helmet. Amy was still a little shaken up, and he rubbed her hand encouragingly as they started inside.
“Kato…I’m not so sure about this.” Amy walked slowly, as if she was dreading having to go inside, and having to go into her own homeroom class without him.
“It will be okay, trust me,” said Kato.
A group of girls that recognized Amy were making their way up the school’s steps at the same time as them. One of them skipped over and smiled at her.
“Hey Amy, is this the new boyfriend that you were talking about the other day?”
Kato smiled at the girls.
“Hi. I’m Kato.” He turned and gave Amy a quick peck on the cheek. “I’ll catch up with you at lunch, okay Amy?”
She nodded at him, and stepped into the group of girls. All of them began chatting and discussing their classes, and Kato could see that the regular routine of school and her friends would work wonders in helping Amy calm down and relax about the night before.
She had no reason to be worried. The new threat in their lives was not after her. Kato, on the other hand, was still as on guard, and still ready for whatever the day would throw at him.
It was simpler without Amy around, and the solution to the problem was something he could execute without bringing the issue of protecting her into the equation. Kato was going to wait for whoever wanted to find him to come out in the open, and then he was going to kill them.
He made his way down the hallway, stopping at his locker to drop off his bag on the way to homeroom. Nothing was out of the ordinary, and he wasn’t expecting it to be. Just like he had explained to Amy, Kato didn’t honestly think that anyone would be foolish enough to make a move on him while he was in school.
Kato walked into his homeroom, and almost bumped directly into Ms. Vega. His heartbeat began to speed up as he looked at her. In the chaos of dealing with Gabe and Amy the night before, he had completely forgotten about his teacher, and the complex problems that she presented to him that he would have to deal with.
“Have a seat, Mr. Lancer.” Ms. Vega smiled at him, but Kato could sense the conflict and tension behind it. She was standing next to her desk, and Kato had to slide by her in order to get to his seat. It felt like time slowed down for Kato as their bodies came into near contact, and the fragrant scent of her perfume was intoxicating to his senses.
The look in her eyes said more than words ever could. Ms. Vega was focused on him, entranced by the web of lies and secrets that Kato lived his life within. He would have to deal with this, and do something about it, but every time he thought about his teacher and the sensual aura that surrounded her, his thoughts immediately brought him into dangerous territory.
Kato sat down at his seat, and flipped open one of his books, using it as distraction for his mind and the powerful urges of his inner beast. Ms. Vega stood at the door and looked out into the hallway, away from him, as the last couple of students made their way into the classroom. The first bell rang out, and she closed all of them inside.
